2019 | Sun Enters Capricorn
WINTER SOLSTICE (YULE) | DEC 21 AT 10:19 CST
the first day of winter, also the shortest day/longest night of the year, welcomes us with energy of stillness and self-reflection. this is a time for us to make peace with our shadows by bringing them to light through transformation, acceptance, embrace, release, or integration.
favorite winter solstice rituals:
bath ritual | grab a couple of tea light candles (i do 3 to 6), run a bath, add epsom salt/pink himalayan salt with herbs and/or oils (sage, rosemary, lavender, clary sage, basil, helichrysum, ylang ylang, vetiver, cedarwood, bergamot, frankincense), light your candles and place them near by, turn the lights out, and soak in the bath for 15-30mins. as youre soaking in the blend you’ve created, allow all of your emotions to float to the surface and submerge in them (your herb/oil blend will support you). crying is a sign of release.
fire ritual | for this you need sage, tea light candle, and a ceramic bowl (to burn your paper in or you can do this ritual outdoors to prevent house fires). light your sage, write down all of your shadows on a piece of paper - worries, fears, doubts, resentments, regrets, mental limitations (perspectives/beliefs), self-sabotaging behavior/habits, negative inner critic/self-talk, unhealthy patterns, outdated programming, mental clutter, emotional blockages (trauma/wounds), insecurities. once you’re done, light your candle, say an intentional prayer for release, then light the paper.

CAPRICORN SEASON
“YOU CAN HAVE RESULTS OR EXCUSES. NOT BOTH. ”
celebrating the end of the year with a cardinal earth sign, leading us into a universal 4 year and a new decade calls us to get our shit in order. capricorn season is here to prepare us for the year to come by offering opportunities to reflect back on our year’s accomplishments and experiences (appreciating and embracing the lessons we learned without resentment), re-evaluate where we’re placing our energy and our position in life (if what you’re doing isn’t paying off, it’s time to make adjustments), review our life goals and visions for the future (stay focused and centered - release any distractions), and reconsider what assets (within and outside ourselves) we can make use of transitioning into a year of new energy.
but also, be aware that during this time, fear of failure and change, doubts of success, or feelings of being stuck and limited with responsibilities could be magnified. capricorn wants you to use it’s grounded energy to face your fears and come up with practical solutions or alternatives to help you move through those fears.
FACTS:
capricorn is a cardinal (beginning of a season - winter solstice, power of initiation, new beginnings - new year) earth (practical, grounded, sense of duty/responsibility, conservative, cautious) sign.
capricorn rules saturn (planet of structure, discipline, limitations, practicality, wisdom, karma).
capricorn rules the 10th house of career, reputation, ambition, responsibilities/obligations, politics, recognition, authorities (father figure).
capricorn rules the skeletal system, which is the supporting structure of our bodies (skull protects our brain, ribs protect our heart). the skeletal system is very similar to what the foundation of a home is built on. if it is not strong, it breaks down; same as what our bodies would do if we do not have strong bones.
capricorn triggers the root chakra. the root chakra is one of the first chakras to develop at the time of our birth. a lot of people, today, stay locked there for their entire lives because of the instinctual need for survival. it’s important that we use the grounded capricorn energy to keep our root chakra balanced or else we will stress ourselves over financial difficulties, gain poor focus, lack discipline, and feel fearful/anxious of the future. the root chakra also stores our childhood/early life, inheritance of tribal programming (past life), upbringing, etc. so if you felt a sense of abandonment during your childhood, had an unstable home environment or experienced trauma as a child, were physically abused, felt unsafe/uncared for/lacking, or your parents subconsciously projected their fears of survival or trauma onto you, the emotions you felt (such as fear) may be brought to the surface for you to face, heal, and release.
capricorn is associated with the devil tarot. when the devil tarot shows up in a reading, this is an indication that you may be creating chains that bond you to an unwanted situation, fearing the unknown, choosing to stay in the dark, submitting to another, allowing yourself to be controlled or tied down. on this tarot card, it shows that the chains that bond the two lovers, who are vulnerably exposed, to the devil are loose and can be easily removed. this is a reminder that your bondage is voluntary and you always have the opportunity to free yourself, but fear, hopelessness, or ignorance may be keeping you bonded.
HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF CAPRICORN SEASON:
create short-term (3 months) and long-term (6 months to a year) goals
don’t bite off more than you can chew (review your commitments, obligations, and responsibilities)
am i overloading myself with more than i can handle?
am i able to add more to my plate?
am i taking on responsibilities that aren’t mine?
build a routine that involves more stretching (capricorn rules the skeletal system - i dont know who needs to hear this but, fix your posture!)
avoid overworking yourself or doing things that may cause burn out
where, what, and who am i investing in my time and energy? is it paying off?
dont get sidetracked (capricorns have a habit of submitting to “all work, no play”, which could take away from the the fun and joy in doing what you’re doing. you can also lose appreciation for the process while achieving your goals because you’re too focused on the end results.)
find balance with work and home life
make improvements (review all areas of your life that may need extra tlc or a little adjusting).
ask yourself: is the life i live now aligned with the life i want for myself?
letting go of your past is highly recommended!
avoid stressing out (if challenges rise, see the lesson that can be learned from experiencing it)
“THE ODDS ARE ALWAYS IN MY FAVOR BECAUSE I DON’T QUIT ”

SUN IN CAPRICORN READING
theme
(9) complete - now is a time to be letting go of the past to make room for new beginnings. this is confirmation that you have completed or are completing a cycle in life that you need to move forward from. you may have outgrown this stage and fearing the unknown will keep you where you are if it is not released.
(6) love - address any limitations that prevent you from experiencing love or a life you would love to have for yourself. allow yourself to receive love, not just through a partner, but for yourself.
lessons:
judgement - awakening to possibilities, transforming, rebirth, making a fresh start, deciding to make a change, feeling drawn to a new direction, self-evaluation, embracing inner calling
the lovers - integration, unifying duality, making decisions, being clear about values and beliefs, finding out what you care about and where you stand.
capricorn is associated with the 15th major arcana (devil tarot), which 15 reduces to 6 (lovers tarot).
v cups - loss that initiates opportunities of growth, regret, unwelcoming change, focusing on negative emotions, disappointment, emotional baggage.
hanged woman - emotional release, accepting what is, being vulnerable and open, suspension, reflecting, seeing from a new angle, letting go, making a sacrifice

to play - learn when to take a break. during capricorn season, we can get so caught up in doing all this work (shadow work, physical work, etc) that we forget when to rest, to rejuvenate, or to enjoy ourselves.
your addictions - this is a reminder that indulging in your addictions (people, work, food, substances) whether healthy or unhealthy and excessively can become distracting in many ways. you are being asked to master the skill of moderation or to reconsider other alternatives.
to inner peace - indulge in stillness and meditative moments by going within to reflect on self-related behaviors, patterns, wounds, habits, etc to free yourself from inner conflict.
